“PhD studies end with an exam. Exam board of 3 supervisors. At this exam, they destroyed everything I’d done the previous two years. What you want to do is impossible with your resources. Dramatic point. My reaction was to defend what I did because I trust in my work. They continued to push back. In the end it was a struggle of power. I learned I needed to listen because there is truth in what they’re saying. You have to trust in your work but you also need to listen to other perspectives. Ultimately I asked for they’d help, and the conversation changed.”
